Joyce Christine Gilbert Vance

Mrs. Joyce Christine Gilbert Vance, age 86, died Tuesday, August 30, 2016 at her home in Utica, MS following a long illness.
While she was a lifelong resident outside of Utica in the beautiful Scutchalo Hills, Joyce especially treasured the time she spent traveling across the county by tour bus with old and new friends. She never met a stranger. She was a Class of 1947 graduate of Utica High School and retired from General Motors in 1993. She was a member of Carpenter United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband Henry Hugh Vance in 2002 and her parents James Everette Gilbert, Sr. and Nancy Tomlin Gilbert.
She is survived by her daughter Ramona Joyce Vance Hennington of Utica; her sons Calvin C. Whatley, Jr., Henry Hugh Vance, Jr. and Charles Gilbert Vance all of Utica; her brothers William “Bill” Gilbert of Ridgeland, James Everette Gilbert, Jr. and Ray Gilbert of Utica; 6 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren; many loving friends, sisters and brothers-in-law, numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 3, 2016 at the Carpenter United Methodist Church with Brother Paul McDonald officiating. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the hour of the service. Burial will be in Carpenter Cemetery in Carpenter, MS.
Pallbearers will be Jake Hutchins, Kenneth Hennington, Jr., Johnny Gilbert, Matt Johnson, Todd Rayner and Daniel Gilbert. Honorary pallbearers will be Robert Womack, Carlis Curtis, R. J. Thompkins, R. C. Mobley and Mackee McGuffee.
Special thanks are expressed to the many healthcare professionals and employees of St. Dominic Hospital, Regency, River Region, Promise, Covenant Healthcare, Amedysis and especially St. Joseph Hospice of Vicksburg, who offered excellent medical and spiritual support.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to the Carpenter United Methodist Church.
